Rix's American Chin-Na / Self Defense

The history of Shaolin Ch'in-Na (Chin-Na) goes back as far as 1600 B.C. The Art of Chen-Na (later known as Chin-Na) is a Chinese system of self defense. It has been kept alive by the "Old Professors" and has passed from father to son. The art was brought to this country around the turn of the century. At that time the Chinese Chen-Na Federation was formed.

David Rix started his Chin-Na and martial arts training in 1950 with Mr. Quong Lee in Maryland. It was a great honor for him to be accepted as his student. In the 1960's he formed the American Chin-Na Association with the encouragement and approval of his teacher. From this came The Defenders Club, the name he gave his self defense school.

Rix's American Chin-Na System is taught in 5 basic steps to the intermediate level.
Step 1: The hard style of Chin-Na is called Yee Ch'uen. It consists of kicking, punching, and open hand techniques for striking vital points of the body with skill.

Step 2: The soft style of Chin-Na is called Chi Chi Shu. It consists of twisting, locking, and breaking of the joints, muscle splitting, submission holds, throws and take downs.

Step 3: Intermingling the hard and the soft styles of Chin Na is used to stabilize your opponent's body for strikes or thows when necessary.

Step 4: The Chin-Na student must learn to attack and defend with skill using weapons as well as the empty hand.

Step 5: The student must develop an understanding of Chi, the working of mind and body in harmony. This includes learning the vital points of the body for attacking with skill.

Rix's American Chin-Na System does not replace any known system of fighting. Instead it makes use of known forms of personal fighting and other means that will accomplish a quick victory. There is nothing glamorous or adventurous about self defense. Rix's American Chin-Na System makes use of the most effective techniques of defensive and offensive tactics not contained in other styles. This makes Chin-Na training very effective for police work, law enforcement, and teaching the physically disabled.

Remember, efficient and effective self defense tactics could be the answer to whether or not you get home safely.
